0.2. My goal
I discovered the joy of travelling abroad and shooting pictures at the same time – about twenty years ago. I quite quickly became passionate about both hobbies. They fit well my writing ability to serve my ultimate creative goal: to experience and to tell.
Over time, I realised that what moved me in my academic studies, and later in my humanitarian commitment was basically meeting, understanding, and sharing with people. Consequently, I gradually focussed my photography on people in their geographical and social environment. This is where I stand now and probably for a long time.
To me, to tell is as important as to experience. Between 2002 and 2009, I reported on my travel experiences through collective mails. This way was not entirely satisfactory to me, as it is rather socially exclusive: you don’t get my posts if you are not on my mailing list.
I was planning since quite a while to initiate a blog. After two unconvincing attempts, I set up this web site in early 2010. This blog meets globally my expectations, and hopefully also yours.
Throughout 2010, I posted not only fresh reports, but also selected pieces of writing created between 2009 and 2000. By the end of the year, the web site reflected my best experiences of the 11-year period 2000-2010.
You may wonder why I wrote my travel posts in French, while my introductory posts are in English or bilingual. French posts are excerpts of my personal diary, which I initiated in French (my mother tongue) on paper long before I became serious with photography, English and Internet. Writing in English would unfortunately exclude some readers. Sticking to French would prevent some newcomers from understanding properly my writing. Up to now, I could not resolve this linguistic dilemma.
When I opened this web site early 2010, I posted not only recent texts and pictures, but also selected materials produced earlier. Some pictures shot prior to 2007 may be technically not optimal, but they account for major intercultural encounters made in India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Colombia – just to name a few countries where I lived or travelled.
More importantly, I just hope that you will enjoy reading my posts as much as I did to produce them.
